1980s

Between 1987 and 1993, Cadillac conceived a convertible-born-luxury roadster with the earned prestige of a European design and the input of a renowned Italian auto design firm. It was the Cadillac Allante, a two-door two-seater with a chassis and running gear built by the brand and a body built in the Repubblica Italiana by coachbuilder Pininfarina. It would rise to fame by 1992, when it was chosen as the pace car for the 76th Indianapolis 500. Plus, with only a little more than 21,000 built during its seven glorious years, today, it's become quite the collector's item.

By 1993, the Cadillac Allante featured a 4.6-liter V8 engine that mated to a four-speed automatic transmission and front-wheel drive. Eight-way dual power seats came standard, as did updated disc brakes, a front spoiler, and Road Sensing suspension. Options included a removable aluminum hardtop, chrome aluminum wheels, and an LCD digital instrument cluster.
